
Dr. Adeleke Oluwole Salami
Dr. Adeleke Oluwole Salami is a distinguished development economist with an extensive background in economic policy, development finance, and strategic planning. He is currently Chief Capacity Development Officer-Macroeconomist at the African Development Institute, African Development Bank. Prior to joining the Bank, he was a Senior Lecturer at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria.
He served the University, among others, as the Head of the Department of Economics and a member of the University Senate. He participated in several interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research projects that have culminated in publications in several refereed journals. In all, he has over 100 publications to his credit. Adeleke Salami also worked in the Agribusiness Department of Lever Brothers PLC (Now Unilever, PLC) in Nigeria on contract in 1988 and World Bank-Assisted Ondo State Agricultural Development Project in 1990. Adeleke Salami has consulted on economic development and public finance issues to many organizations, including UNICEF, the European Union, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
He obtained a B.Sc., M.Sc, and Ph.D. Agricultural Economics degrees from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He has had professional Executive Education courses at Harvard University, USA; Imperial College London, UK; University of Cambridge, UK; University of Pretoria, South Africa; Wageningen University, The Netherlands; and International Monetary Funds, Washington, USA.
His professional affiliations include the Nigerian Economic Society, the African Association of Agricultural Economists, the International Association of Agricultural Economics, the American Economic Association, the Western Economic Association International, the African Finance and Economics Association, and the National Economic Association (USA). His research interests include public finance, agricultural policies and food security, poverty issues, and development economics.
He is also a member of Junior Chamber International, where he served in various roles, including JCIN National Vice President (1997). He was recognized as JCIN Nigeria Outstanding Chapter President (1995), awarded JCIN Ambassador (1996), and inducted into the Senate (2008) as a life member.
