Abdou Diouf

Mr. Diouf will give a presentation onImproving Africa’s Perspectives in a Globalized World: the Role of Regional Integration.The session will be chaired by ADB President, Mr. Donald Kaberuka.

Mr. Abdou Diouf was elected Secretary-General of the Francophonie on 20 October 2002, during the Ninth Francophonie Summit in Bayreuth. He took over from Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

The former President of Senegal has also contributed immensely to the strengthening of African unity. Indeed, he was OAU Chairman (July 1985-July 1986, and then in 1992) and ECOWAS Chairman (July 1991-July 1992). Furthermore, on many occasions, he fought for regional integration, which is one of his most cherished themes.
